The cheapest hire at Menorca airport is usually not the flashiest desk, but the one booked well and in good time. On such a seasonal island, the date rules over everything else.
What really brings the price down
- Book well in advance. In July and August prices soar and cheap cars sell out; booking in spring is what saves the most.
- Compare terminal vs. off-airport. Companies with an office outside the grounds (with a shuttle) are usually cheaper than those at the desk itself; in return, you lose a few minutes on the transfer.
- Watch the excess and the insurance. The “cheap” rate often carries a high excess; zero-excess full cover raises the price but avoids the deposit shock.
- Full-to-full fuel. Avoid “full-to-empty” policies, where you pay for a full tank up front.
- A small car (or a scooter). Menorca is small and the roads to the coves are narrow with tight parking; a small car goes a long way and is easy to park in Maó and Ciutadella, and for the coast many people simply rent a scooter.
